Batesville Day

We took part in the annual Batesville Day parade and set up a petting area for kids again this year (previous Batesville Day post here). Bonnie and I followed the kids' bicycle patrol at the head of the parade. Here are some pics:

Locavore Paradise

Charlottesville boasts some of the best artisan food in the nation. We are lucky to live in, and to sell to, such a vibrant foodie community.

Farming is an odd business - although technically in competition, we farmers tend to help each other out. In the space below, I'll be adding links to other Albemarle County farms, food groups, and good restaurants that support sustainable farming.

I don't have much of a readership - this is really a labor of love for a few friends and family with a smattering of customers - but if you are a local farmer and would like to be included in this link list, send me a note.

L'Etoile Restaurant in Charlottesville - Mark and Vicky Gresge are huge supporters of local farming. I'm too small to be a supplier, but let me just say that their French cuisine is incredible. If I ever win the lottery, Sally and I will make a standing once-a-week reservation.

Majesty Farm in North Garden - Kathryn Russell is the local raw milk guru and serves her fellow farmers in a variety of activist capacities.

Perfect Flavor in Waynesboro - Lynsie Watkins makes artisan ice cream and a darn fine-lookin' web page. I'm almost embarrassed to send you there from my simple little Luddite effort.

If you are interested in Community Supported Agriculture - weekly deliveries of fresh vegetables direct from the people who grew it, you might visit Michael and Kathryn Bertoni at Appalachia Star Farm, or Rob and Megan Weary at Roundabout Farm or support meaningful work for the developmentally disabled at Innisfree Village.

Sweet Dog Farm in Dyke, Virginia - Tom and Kelly Silliman raise pastured poultry and consult with small folks who want to start a backyard flock. More importantly for the local food movement, Tom has stepped into the processor vacuum and will custom process your chickens for you.
